Kundalini Yoga strengthens your body and nervous system and increases your flexibility. Kundalini also, balances your glandular system, increases health and vitality and calms and balances the mind. Class consists of Kriyas (exercise sets), Asanas (posture) Mantras (chanting), Pranayams (breathing exercises), Mudras (hand position) and Meditation. These parts, when combined, bring peace, health, vitality, and a strong, clear mind.
In Kundalini class you start with a short chant and warm-up exercises to improve your spine’s flexibility, where the kundalini is stored. You then follow warmups with a Kriya or exercise set. There are thousands of kriyas, or exercise sets; each addresses specific conditions such as improving functions of the physical body or strengthening the mind and healing emotions.
One class may include a Kriya utilizing rapid, repetitive movements coordinated with a designated breathing pattern or chanting. Another class’ Kriya may include yoga poses that are held for several minutes, with a specific breathing pattern.
Kundalini is one of the most spiritual types of yoga. In addition to strengthening the body and creating flexibility that other yogas offer, Kundalini incorporates all of the traditional tools of a yogi to reach enlightenment.
